Call for Submissions: Internal & External Competitions

The Hart House Orchestra (HHO) is now accepting submissions for the 2014-2015 Internal & External Concerto Competitions. The Internal Competition is open to current members of the orchestra. The External Competition is open to those not currently affiliated with the HHO.

The winners of the each competition will perform with the orchestra during the 2014-2015 season (specific concert dates to be determined). The winners must be available for four rehearsals prior to the concert, and the dress rehearsal Tuesday on the week of the performance. (HHO rehearses on Tuesday evenings at Hart House.)

Submission Process

The competition is a two-stage process.

Stage 1 requires entrants to submit an audition package containing the following:

  1. A brief biography and/or resume.
  2. Contact information (including email and/or telephone number).
  3. A recording: Instrumentalists, please submit a high quality recording of a slow movement and a fast movement of a concerto of your choice, or a single-movement work it its entirety with orchestral or piano accompaniment. If submitting a full-length recording, the audition committee reserves the right to only listen to selections. Vocalists, please submit high quality recordings of three arias. Recordings may be submitted via physical media (CD, cassette, USB key or SD card) or electronically. (Please note that electronic submissions sent as email attachments will not be received - contact HHO to make arrangements for electronic submission.)

Deadline for Stage One: March 11, 2014

Stage 2: Up to three candidates will be selected for the final audition, to be held April 15, 2014 at Hart House. Finalists will be notified by March 18th if they have been selected to perform a live audition, and should be prepared to perform their chosen work in its entirety. Accompanists are required for the live audition and are not provided. Please make appropriate arrangements.
